Brenda H. Mullins 5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantasy Masterpiece! February 21, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase I am a fantasy novel me and I was so pleased to read The Bad Seed by Mike Lackey. The originality of the world blew me away. If you are into medieval fantasies you're in for a treat. A story centers on the idea of demons using a sapling tree as a means to enter the human world and wreak havoc in this world. I felt that this was a new spin on the "portal" type story line. A classic demons versus humans adventure. The fantasy had dramatic undertones of evil against good and light versus darkness. That gave me to the bones of the story of period the writing itself had a great old fashioned feel. Very akin to the never ending story where the boy reveals a deeper meanings in life along with his arduous journey of self discovery. The character Zachary did just that as well Zachary is a curious little boy growing into a man only to discover his strength and anks to. No spoilers here but I found the book to be a charming adventure fantasy. The story made me go back and red my favorite parts again.

Elves and dwarves. Orcs and demons. Worlds on the brink of disaster. A dragon rider! Do I have your attention yet?
When the author, @mikelackey23, sent me his novel The Bad Seed, I immediately set aside my then-current read to dive into this fantastic story. Three thousand years after the War of the Gods, Malonox, the Shadow God, is ready to take control of Amundiss, and with his army of evil, vows to let nobody stand in his way. But the forces of Light are not without their own secret weapons.
What James Newman has done for 80's horror novels, Michael Lackey has done for classic 80's fantasy. The same sense of excitement and adventure I used to feel reading such names as Anne McCaffrey, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Tanith Lee and C.J. Cherryh were rekindled reading this book. The tale is sure to suck you in from the very beginning, and the reader will soon realize that sleep is very much overrated. The story flows swiftly, with nary a lag in the action, and the characters are very well crafted, from the King of Whitehold all the way down to the little farmer's son who became a hero.
